A striking relief mosaic coffee table by São Paulo architect and designer Percival Lafer.
1960s São Paulo was the base of significant architectural exploration, centring around native hardwoods, a Brazilian translation of European modernism and local crafts. Lafer’s coffee table is a fine example of this moment in design history.
Constructed from a combination of richly coloured rosewood, teak and jacaranda, the table is formed from timber blocks of varying lengths and depths, creating a highly distinctive geometric relief across the top and down the sides. The structure is protected by its original clear glass top, with no significant marks or chips.
A folding mechanism allows the side supports to be neatly folded beneath the top for storage.
This piece is a particularly fine version of Lafer’s design.
